We care about making your song sound the best it can. The amount of work you put into making the song deserves the same amount of attention during the mastering process. We provide that attention.
Most mastering engineers have a revision limit. We don't do that shit. We will go back and forth with you on the mastering until it sounds right and the way you want it to sound.
Most of our analog equipment is one of a kind and custom built for our specific needs. This gives your masters a unique sound that can only be done with Punching Dolphins.
We strive to provide the best quality in the masters we do. We take pride in that shit!
Punching Dolphins analog stem summing & clean up mastering service is done mainly with analog gear. We clean your stems up. Then we run your song stems through our custom summing hardware compiling your stems to a stereo output. That stereo feed is then mastered with analog hardware to get it as close to the final master as possible.
Analog masters require a commitment on the mix stems submitted. This overall process takes time, if you need a master in 24 hours or some shit then the analog master isn't what you want. This overall master process can take days but your record is worth it.
Punching Dolphins analog stereo mastering service is done mainly with analog gear. It is everything we do in the stem clean-up and summing master process without the stem clean-up and summing. We master your stereo with analog hardware to get it as close to the final master as possible.

Punching Dolphins digital mastering service is done all in the box using the best tools for the job at hand. Your digital master is treated with the same love and efforts as our analog masters but leaves much more room for flexibility. Swaping out mixes, trying different color or volume options, and automation of sections can be done with ease.
If you need mix feedback before a master is run just let us know.
For our unique analog mastering process we want to work with your stems. We found over time that being able to slightly tweak and control the stems as we sum the audio while running and analog master allows us to get the most of the master. We typically work with only 8-12 stems at most. More information about stems can be found on our Analog Mastering page.
We compile the stems with analog summing utilizing our custom analog summing hardware. We have summing options to apply a tube harmonic color or a clean solid state summing. The analog summing helps with providing depth and openness to the song that most digital summing does not provide.
At this stage, we will run your song through our analog mastering equipment with a focus of keeping the master as much in the analog domain as the song allows. We will control the dynamics, imaging, tonal balance, limiting, and overall color of the track with our hardware. This process really gives the song a lot of unique sonic character.
At this stage we will correct and enhance anything else that needs it. This is when the final overall shape of the master takes place. Once we think we have something locked in we will start moving the final volume push with analog limiting. It is a good idea to give us a reference point of how loud you think you want your master to be.
During this stage, we finalize volume pushes to what we feel works best for the sound of the record and the content of the music. We will then send you a master proof at that point. If you wish to go louder or softer we will make adjustments to the loudness until we lock an approved final volume for your master.
Once the master is complete and proofed by you we will finalize the masters. Since we run your mix stems through summing and mastering hardware captured on DSD audio it allows us to create different sample rate/bit depth master prints. We can make any file formats you may need.
Once the stereo mix of your song is submitted we will check your mix to see if there is anything that could be adjusted for a better master. If there is something that stands out we will contact you before starting the first stage of the mastering process. Each song is different and we take pride in finding the right tools to bring the very best out of your mix.
At this stage, we are off to the races with your song. We will control the dynamics, imaging, tonal balance and overall color of the track. Once we feel we got a sonically fitting sound for your song we will send a proof your way.
Countless times we have found once a song goes through the mastering process a client hears areas to improve their mix. If this is the case we can swap your updated mix file with ease. This makes sure you truly get the sound your looking for.
At this stage we will correct and enhance anything that needs it as a seperate output chain from the digital processing stage. This is where the overall shape of the final master takes place. We look for feedback from you with any sonic adjustments you may want at this point.
During this stage we finalize loudness volume pushes and make various versions you may need from streaming to loud as fuck. We will go back and forth until we lock a final volume for your master.
Once the master is complete and proofed by you we will finalize the masters. Since this is a digital master the highest sample rate and bit depth we will provide will be the original sample rate and bit depth of your song submission. If you have a specific format needed just let us know. (DDP, Mfit,Mobile ect)

Analog Masters take much more time with a minimum of 3-7 days turn around time. There is a shit ton more involved so we need the time.
Communication is key to a speedy process.
Once the mastering order has been confirmed and purchased you will receive a downloadable pdf with submission upload links and instructions on file formats.
